Did Labor Day Weekend Contribute to the Number of Fatal Accidents in ATL?
The city of Atlanta has surpassed their year-to date car accident fatality rate compared to that of last year. According to 11alive.com, in 2015, there were a total of 906 deadly accidents that occurred around this same time, but this year, the city is seeing an increase in this number as there have already been 933 deaths so far. And this past Labor Day weekend didn’t exactly help.
Both of the fatal car accidents that occurred in Atlanta were on I-75 and during the early morning hours.
Car accident lawyers nearby in the Atlanta area are shedding light on not one, but two fatal accidents that both occurred on Interstate-75. The first transpired on Sunday morning at approximately 1:20 a.m. Just moments before the tragic accident occurred, Atlanta Police stated that there had been a car stalled in the middle of the Downtown Connector. This obviously caused some chaos as automobiles were forced to swerve out the way to avoid colliding with this immobile vehicle.
Car crash attorneys in Atlanta point out that when instances such as this arise, it is important that all drivers on the roadway add precaution as they drive and be sure they are on high alert. Unfortunately, one motorist failed to do so as he didn’t necessarily take notice to why these cars were swerving out of the way. The man was traveling in a Toyota 4-Runner and speeding down I-74/85 when he clipped another vehicle that was attempting to get out of the way from the immobile car that was blocking the lanes. With speeding as an added factor, he wasn’t able to maneuver the vehicle in time which caused him to clip the other car.
Atlanta, GA car accident lawyers note that the Toyota flipped several times and although the driver wasn’t ejected from his vehicle, he did die on scene from the traumatic injuries he suffered from. The man identified as the driver of this Toyota was Jose Castro, who was only 40 years of age. The driver of the automobile that Castro clipped was said to have survived and “is expected to be okay.”
Both car crashes that occurred resulted in a fatality leaving two families without their loved one’s.
Georgia car collision attorneys report that just a few hours later, another accident occurred around 4 a.m. on the same roadway but further north. This time, Jude May, 40, was the unfortunate victim to a deadly accident. Apparently May had drifted off the roadway and struck a guardrail. This prompted the driver to get out and check the damage done to the vehicle. As May was checking the car, a passing vehicle hit and killed him.
Two accidents, and two individuals now dead. While night time driving is already a risk in itself, the Labor Day weekend didn’t necessarily make the roadways any safer.
