Several drivers injured in multiple car pileup in Austin

Austin, TX – When multiple drivers are close to each other in traffic, just a small impact can cause a reaction that pushes several vehicles into an accident. If this happens, all drivers should contact their insurance company and report the crash. There may also be several different insurance claims and lawsuits depending on the specifics of the collision. In these situations, those who were involved can get legal advice and decide if they want to pursue a civil lawsuit to get a settlement or compensation from a jury verdict.

Local news for the Austin area reported on a motor vehicle crash that involved several drivers and caused multiple injuries [1].

Many drivers affected by crash

According to the report, during the Sunday night crash there were eight vehicles affected and four people were injured. The incident happened in the northwest area of Austin at about 8:45 pm when the vehicles collided around the northbound lanes of North FM 620 and the North Lake Creek Parkway vicinity. At least one victim was ejected from a vehicle, but no specific information was given about their condition. According to Travis County EMS, one of the victims was also transported to Round Rock Medical Center with life threatening injuries. Two of the others injured at the scene refused transportation to the hospital. There were also reports of significant traffic delays in the area.

Lawsuits for negligence

The driver or drivers who are responsible may face lawsuits which argue they are at fault for all of the damage. A negligence case argues that each driver has a standard duty of care that must be observed on the roads, and any deviation from this standard that causes an accident will result in liability for the crash.

Comparative negligence and determining fault for a crash

In multiple vehicle accidents, there may be multiple insurance claims and lawsuits related to this crash. Negligence laws in Texas and other states allow for the possibility for fault to be divided between all parties involved. In the state, a driver can collect money from a negligence lawsuit as long as their fault for the accident is found to be less than fifty percent. Drivers who are more than half at fault cannot collect any money from the others involved.
